World War II: Segregation & Inequality
Sparking the civil rights movement, World War II highlighted the segregation and inequality that haunted the American lifestyle. During the war, African Americans were segregated into separate military squadrons. At home, their living conditions were decreasing as immigrants came to the country and overpopulation occurred. This is increase in immigration also led to an increase in difficulty of finding work. African Americans found it harder to make the money that they needed. America was fighting in WWII to attempt to spread democracy, a government in which all citizens are able to participate and have an equal voice. However, the equality of its own people was still nonexistent.
