Double V Campaign: Taking Action
In response to World War II, a newspaper in Kansas titled “The Pittsburgh Courier”, published an article, titled the “Double V Campaign", written by James G. Thompson about the importance of equal rights in the United States since there were more than a million African Americans fighting against inequality abroad. The newspaper’s readers were primarily black, as this was their intended audience for the campaign, and by the time the “Double V Campaign” was circulating, they had a readership of approximately 200,000. Each week, the newspaper wrote about how African Americans could achieve “victory” at home.
